Ashley emailed me early last week sounding a little frantic. “I was just wondering… Do you happen to have any big umbrellas you bring on shoots? Because the forecast is calling for lots of rain, but I still want to try to get some portraits outside.”
When you’re planning to have your ceremony out in the open on a golf course, there are few things more panic-inducing than a forecast calling for a 70% chance of rain and possibly thunderstorms. But miraculously, once Saturday rolled around, not a single drop fell from the sky. In fact, the clouds overhead actually ended up making the day gorgeous and breezy and mild, a lot like it was for their engagement session at Oak Mountain back in October.
What I love about Ashley and JD is just how much fun they are. Ashley immediately makes you feel like a long lost friend being around her, and she was joking and laughing literally from the minute I walked into the salon where she was getting ready… which is how you ALWAYS want a bride to feel on her wedding day!
My friend Kelly made a comment the other day about how truly lucky we are, as wedding photographers, to get to spend time with a couple on the happiest day of their lives every weekend, and it’s so true. When Ashley and JD got emotional reading letters from each other before seeing each other, so did I. When they grinned in excitement at seeing how beautiful the ceremony site ended up being, so did I. When they almost peed themselves doubled over in laughter when Ashley’s dad hit the dance floor at the reception, so did I. The fact that I get to document it all with my camera is just icing on the cake!
