Oh, Ashley and Nick. I just love these two. I knew that it was going to be a treat to shoot their bold, glamorous, pink-and-purple wedding, and when I showed up at the Tutwiler Hotel, where they were getting ready, and saw Ashley’s oh-so-blingy heels, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. But aside from the fun design elements, it’s so obvious how much Ashley and Nick love each other and have fun together, so photographing them was an absolute breeze.
I love that they chose to have their ceremony and reception at Vulcan Park, home of the world’s largest cast iron statue. Vulcan is a central figure in the Birmingham skyline, and we always point him out to people who visit us here in Birmingham. (We actually used to live practically right under him!) Nick actually proposed to Ashley nearby, in an area overlooking the entire city (so romantic), so it was an especially meaningful location for them. They also chose to play up some of the art deco elements of the museum in the design of their programs, which was really cool too.
I have to give a HUGE shout out to Jamie of M. Elizabeth Events for doing an amazing job coordinating the day and handling the unexpected challenges. She made our job so much easier and was a joy to work with. Also major thanks goes to Mary Margaret Smith for doing a fabulous job as always as my second shooter and capturing some of the lovely images you see below.
Enjoy!
I love this shade of magenta-purple that Ashley chose for the bridesmaids dress. So rich and gorgeous.
Yay for first looks!
Gah. GOR-GEOUS.
Love these next two images captured by Mary Margaret just before the ceremony. I think she knows I’m a sucker for a great candid. ;)
So, Nick is obviously a fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. ;)
The bridesmaids did a surprise choreographed dance to Beyonce’s “Move Your Body.” LOVED IT.
Ashley and Nick, thank you so much for allowing us to be part of your day! It was a joy to capture all the love and FUN in your relationship. Congratulations!
Amanda - I loved the picture of the bride and her bridesmaids sitting on the stairs. Beautiful people, vibrant color and gorgeous architecture. The departure picture is adorable — the bride and groom with all the balloons around them — love it! Awesome work, Morgan
