Emily + Brendan // A Navy and Gold Birmingham Wedding

birmingham the club wedding

As someone who graduated from the University of Tennessee (don’t hold it against me, Alabama friends ;)), it was so much fun listening to the story of how Emily and Brendan met. They were both students at UT, and ended up in the University Center at the same time, trying to find lab coats at the last second for the biology class they were both supposed to be in. Emily’s brother-in-law had driven her there because he happened to be on campus, and she didn’t have time to trek up the Hill (a hill so terrible to climb it’s been given capitalization), so when she got back in the car with Brendan, the guy she had just met, needless to say it was a bit of a surprise. But that day, these two became lab partners, and the rest is history. :)

Sure, I loved the fact that my beloved “Rocky Top” was sung during the reception, and that Emily reminds me SO much of Ellen Page (seriously, it was hard not to accidentally call her Ellen during the day), and that their wedding party was an absolute blast to spend time with, and how gorgeous the navy and gold color palette was… but in the end, as with all the weddings, the best part was getting to capture the complete adoration Emily and Brendan have for each other. You’ll see it in the photos. And if you don’t, then I’ve just failed miserably as a photographer.

Thank you so much to Haley of Photos by Heart for doing a fabulous job second shooting for me at this one. (I also shot Haley’s own wedding a few weeks later, which I can’t wait to share soon! Goodness, I love having so many amazing friends in this industry.) Thanks also to Mandy and her team at Hothouse Design Studio for the gorgeous florals– they’re one of my favorite florists in town for a reason! It was also great to work with Danny Brewer of Feel the Beat entertainment again. He has such a great heart and is so much fun at receptions! And thank you also to Jackie Robinson of Rawwbeauty. She has a way of making faces photo-ready like no one’s business. ;)

But let’s get on to the photos, shall we?

Emily has no shortage of personality! I love the range of her facial expressions we captured throughout the day. :)

Bride and mama moments… they just kill me.

It’s truly amazing how serendipitous location scouting can be. Right next door to the church was the Federal Building and Court House, which had the most amazing white stone walls with gold accents. A PERFECT backdrop for a modern navy and gold wedding, right?!

Emily and Brendan are huge Beatles fans, so an Abbey Road-inspired shot was kind of a must.

This was so sweet. Emily held it together for pretty much all of the ceremony, and then as soon as she and Brendan came through the double doors and stopped to hug each other, she lost it. I wish I had been able to do this at my own wedding, rather than sobbing in all my photos. ;)

I’m pretty sure I’ll never tire of the view of Birmingham from The Club. Goodness.

Meredith - MORGAN, you are TOO good! These blew me away! Wow! You have so much talent.

katie - Can I just say that Ellen Page is the poor man’s version of Emily?
They are a-dor-a-ble.
Fabulous shots of their big day!

The Oblinger Family

My friend Katie is a photographer in the Atlanta area, and like many of my photographer friends, we first met online. We have chatted back and forth about business and personal stuff and followed each others’ work for a long time now. I’ve always loved her sense of humor and her down-to-earth attitude about life in general, so when she asked if I’d be up for visiting her family in Georgia to take photos for them, I was all over it! It’s always an incredible honor to be entrusted to capture another talented photographer’s memories, but on top of that, I knew we’d have a lot of fun together.

And oh, how right I was! Katie and her husband Ashley have a precious son, Camden, and he and I hit it off right away. (Which always makes shooting toddlers a lot easier! I always have mad respect for child photographers after doing family sessions… you gotta have a lot of energy to keep up with the young ones. :)) We headed to a nearby park and spent the evening running around, playing, and listening to Camden serenade us while playing his guitar. The kid is destined for musical greatness, I just know it!

Enjoy some of my favorite captures from our time together. Thank you for having me out, Oblinger family! <3

Caili - That first shot is classic! I smiled the entire way through this post. Just perfect!

Lyn - Morgan,
Again I commend you on the fabulous photos you took of Camden and his parents. To show you how much I liked them you’d have to see how many I bought and have framed in my home. But, I’d also like to thank you for the kind words you wrote about Katie, her photography, and her family. We’re extremely proud of her and her work, and more than happy that the 2 of you got together. Thanks again for the awesome pictures of the Oblingers.

Brooke - Been a fan of your work for a few years now, Morgan, and I have to photographed Katie’s family perfectly! That Camden is the sweetest and his personality just shines through – and Katie and Ashley aren’t too shabby either. ;)

katie - Love these from the bottom of my heart. Not sure anyone could have truly captured our family the way you did. Kind of obvious Camden totally loved you too. You are the best Morgan!!!

Barbara Oblinger - Hi Morgan,

I’m Katie Oblinger’s mother in law. Your work with the family is just fabulous. They’re so happy with the photos. Could I please order a set from you? Just email me with pricing.

Thanks so much,
Barbara Oblinger

kristen - these capture the oblinger family to a T! such great photos!! love those smiles and little camden playing his guitar!

Kelly + Ross // A Sweet Southern Wedding at the Donnelly House

donnelly house wedding

When I posted a sneak peek of Kelly and Ross’s wedding on Facebook, I said that even though it’s probably one of the most overused words ever, “sweet” was the most fitting term I could think of to describe their day. Everything about it, start to finish, was just laid back, low key, and brimming with a soft-spoken kind of joy and love. From the lovely shades of soft peach and pink, to the way Kelly’s dress hugged her teeny little frame perfectly, to the romantic backdrop of the historic Donnelly House, every detail worked together to create a perfectly sweet day. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when Kelly and Ross topped it all off by waltzing around to the Beatles’ “When I’m 64” for their first dance. *happy sigh*

You may remember from their engagement session that these two live in an adorable apartment in the historic Highlands district. It’s actually right across the street from the Donnelly House, so we were able to walk back and forth while the girls got ready in the apartment. How convenient is that! They’ve since moved to Atlanta for a job opportunity, but I know they’ll always have such amazing memories attached to this one little block of Birmingham.

Huge thanks to the always amazing Mary Margaret Smith for second shooting, and to Elizabeth Bacon (of EB Photography) who is interning with me this fall and came along to assist. I had such a great time with these ladies, and you’ll see some of their lovely shots throughout this post.

Enjoy!
