Ashley + David // A Hearts-Filled Engagement Session

When Ashley sent me her first email, I knew I would love her. Immediately. Why? Because this is a direct quote from the email:

“I pretty much knew you were the right photographer for us when I stumbled across your site and loved every photo on here! Then the selling point came when I saw you were wearing a Dolly Parton circa 9 to 5 era shirt in your bio and that you listed her as one of your interests. My love for Dolly has been called an obsession by many (including my fiancé) and her song “From Here to the Moon and Back” will most definitely be played at our wedding. I am convinced she is my fairy godmother in life; we just haven’t met!”

See? It was meant to be!

So I knew going into our session that I’d love these two, but by the end of it, I was SUPER happy and excited to have gotten to photograph them. When they first walked into Church Street Coffee and Books (my favorite coffee shop, which you probably know if you’ve met with me anytime in the past 6 months ;)), they warned me that David was feeling sick. I told him I’d be more than happy to reschedule if he wasn’t feeling up to it, but he insisted that the show must go on, so we got some drinks and started shooting. (It was actually perfect, because the shop was all decorated for Valentine’s Day- aw!) As we kept shooting, I couldn’t believe how animated and fun David was, even while feeling under the weather. If it were me, I wouldn’t have left the couch. ;) But seriously, these two were so stinkin’ adorable together, and I loved spending the afternoon with them. I can’t wait for their wedding in December!

I was also kiiiind of obsessed with Ashley’s hat.

Sometimes when you’re crawling around in the bushes to get a photo, you amuse your subjects so much that they want to take a photo of you. ;)

Thanks you two for such a great time! xo

Meryl + Anthony // An Avondale Engagement Session

Meryl and Anthony… I love these two! They asked me to do some engagement photos for them, since they were going to be here in Birmingham but will be getting married in Kansas this summer, and I was more than happy to oblige. We decided to spend the afternoon in the Avondale neighborhood, which is right next to my Crestwood neighborhood and is becoming near and dear to my heart. We met at Parkside Tavern first, where they graciously let us roam around the amazing back patio. (If you haven’t been, it’s a really cool spot to hang out! It’s actually an antique store that’s been converted into a bar, so you can imagine how eclectic the decor is.) We then walked across the street to Avondale Park, which was just renovated last year. We lucked out with one warm sunny day in the midst of a bunch of rainy, cold, miserable ones, which I was so glad for!

Anthony is currently stationed out in California, and Meryl will be following him out there in a few months. I’m so thankful we got the opportunity to do this session while Anthony was able to be in Birmingham for a little bit. I wish you guys the best of luck as you begin the next stage of life together!

I’m kind of obsessed with Meryl’s gold and diamond engagement ring!

These two are ridiculously cute together. And oh how I looove some sparkly water. :)

Thank you guys for a great afternoon!

Misty + Craig // A Classic Winter Wedding

I know I’ve said it before, but one of my very favorite things about weddings is witnessing two families become one. In Misty and Craig’s case, this was especially sweet because of their kids. Misty has two sons and Craig has two daughters, and they all literally stair-step in age, and it was SO fun to watch how much they’ve already adopted each other as siblings. Misty spent the first part of the day with the girls, Emma and Ally, (while Craig was hanging out with Chance and Logan at a basketball game), and as soon as the guys arrived to the country club, the girls couldn’t wait to see them and begged to go hang out with them. It was so stinkin’ adorable. The four kids were also the bridal party, and Chance even walked Misty down the aisle, which had everyone grinning from ear to ear and/or crying. ;)

The whole day was so intimate, simple, and laid-back, but also so classic and elegant. Misty, who calls herself a ponytail and no-makeup kind of girl, took things up a notch with a stunning Jenny Packham dress (my favorite!), but kept the mood very light-hearted and easygoing with her fantastic sense of humor. And Craig, who normally isn’t too into photos, was such a good sport, and kept stealing the sweetest glances at Misty (and I’m pretty sure he thinks we didn’t notice- sorry Craig!). It’s a good thing he got into it, because these wedding photos are especially important to them. Not too long ago, their house caught fire and they lost everything, including most of their family photos. When I heard that, it absolutely broke my heart! But now they’ll be able to fill their frames with new photographs, and new memories, as they begin their life together as a new family. Have I mentioned lately that I love my job? ;)

I have to give a shout-out to my friend Kelly of Spindle Photography for assisting me… you’ll see some of her lovely shots below!

Congratulations, Misty and Craig, on the beginning of a new chapter in your lives! It was honor for us to be there to witness it. And now, the photos!

I couldn’t imagine a more cozy setting for a dreary February day than a ceremony in front of a fireplace like this one. So perfect.

I’m pretty much obsessed with first looks. :)

I absolutely love the image below, because I think it’s adorable how the parents are having this intimate moment, and all you see is a kid’s hand tapping on her shoulder wanting to ask a question. Even though I’m not a parent, I imagine this to be pretty indicative of parenthood in general. :)

Four of the cutest kids ever. Seriously.

Definitely a favorite. I love big laughs on wedding days.

You guys are super good looking, you know that?

Fact: if you wear a gorgeous dress and a fur coat, I WILL take about a million bridal photos of you. ;)

LOVE. Love, love, love.

Thank you Misty and Craig (and family!) for having us be a part of your day! We loved every minute of it!

Misty Williams - Wow. Oh, wow. How beautiful. Thank you so much!! I have so many favorites. I love Ally’s face when we are kissing - she looks disgusted!!! So cute. I love Emma tapping me on the shoulder while I’m completely wrapped up in my first look with Craig (tuning out kids is an acquired talent). I love Logan’s hand gestures! Love my baby walking me down the aisle. Love seeing Emma leaning over to see what’s going on during the vows. And um, hello…the FUR. Love the way my husband makes me laugh. Thank you for being such a fabulous artist! Perfect, and exactly what I wanted!!

Rachael Houser - Morgan, I’ve been following your work for a couple years now and never have commented. I’m one of those annoying silent followers ;) but I couldn’t pass on commenting on this post. The images exude feeling and are so beautiful, inside and out. Thank you so much for sharing this wedding! Your work has inspired me as a photographer and I know it will continue to do so!

Kelly Cummings - I love them all, especially all of the gorgeous portraits of Misty! I loved this wedding and am so glad I was able to be a part of it! Gorgeous as always, Morgan! And congratulations, Misty and Craig!!
