Ameet and Samantha | Engaged

When Ameet contacted me a few weeks ago about setting up an engagement session for him and Samantha, I was instantly charmed by the obvious love he has for her. Evidently, she had found my site and become a huge fan of my work, but didn’t think they would be able to hire me, so Ameet wanted to surprise her. Cue the “awww”!

Then, when they sent in their questionnaires, I knew it was meant to be. Samantha talked about how their perfect day together would include sleeping in, going to O’Henry’s for coffee and bagels, book hunting at 2nd and Charles, going to an antique shop or two, takeout in the park for lunch, an afternoon hike at Sipsey, cooking Indian food together for dinner, and curling up on the couch with dessert and a good movie. Um, HELLO, can I just tag along on that perfect day, please?! She also told me about how they met when she was a work-study at the library at Birmingham-Southern College, and how Ameet came up to the front desk one day, told her his life story, and did so every day for three months until she agreed to go out for Mexican food with him. Now that is dedication. For the record, Ameet admitted that the first time he made eye contact with her, he ran into a light pole shortly thereafter. Personally I think Ameet and Samantha would be perfect for a romantic comedy. This was confirmed when he described meeting her gaze as “a piece of luxury dark chocolate truffle (at lease 75% cacao) that you crave every minute and you can’t tell whether it’s the caffeine or the beauty of the ripples of the dark chocolate that make it so addicting.” Oh, hi, Tom Hanks. ;)

The other thing I LOVE about Ameet and Samantha (aside from our shared love for She & Him, duh) is how they’re planning their wedding. Ameet’s family is Indian, and Samantha’s is right here in Alabama, born and raised, so they decided to have a very intimate ceremony celebrating the best of both cultures right before they move out to Seattle to begin the next chapter of their lives together. I’ve recently become a huge fan of small weddings (especially ones where cultures collide!), as they can sometimes be so much more meaningful and a lot less stressful, so kudos to them for keeping it sweet and simple!

And now for the goods. Inspired by their vision of a perfect day, we started out our session in Homewood at O’Henry’s and did a little window shopping before heading over to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to roam around. Enjoy!

Can I also just say how much I LOVE the fact that Samantha wore bright pink lipstick? I adore bold lip colors, especially since this one suits her so well.

Her necklace, on the left, is actually a magnifying glass. It’s a piece she inherited from her Great Aunt Edna and treasures most of all. So naturally, I had to shoot it. :)
