A little while back, I got the sweetest email from a girl named Brittany. She had seen my work at the Birmingham bridal show and, although she had already lined up a photographer for her wedding and is currently living in Tennessee, wanted to know if I’d be interested in doing an engagement session for her and her fiance, Justin. So because I had a couple of other shoots coming up in the Nashville area, we lined up a time and place to meet. She was so cute, sending me links to outfits she was considering wearing and asking my opinion. I LOVE that!
So just imagine, if you will, my disappointment when, on the day of our shoot, I woke up to torrential downpour and a high of 40 degrees… for the whole day. I really didn’t want to let Brittany down, because I knew how excited she was, so I called her and said I would be more than understanding if she wanted to reschedule when we had better weather to work with. But apparently no amount of rain can put a damper on this girl’s spirits, because she assured me that she trusted me and wanted to go ahead with the shoot, rain or shine. I was so impressed with her positive attitude, but then as soon as I hung up the phone my stomach was in knots. I was so incredibly nervous, I can’t even tell you. To throw yet another wrench into the plan, I showed up early at our first planned location, the Elliston Place Soda Shop, only to find it was closed. And there we were, in a city none of us were familiar with, faced with the challenge of finding relatively dry places to shoot on the fly. Fortunately, we did end up stumbling upon a couple of underpasses and awnings, and then we headed to Union Station, where they graciously allowed us to shoot indoors and warm up a bit. Thank goodness for kind people in those situations!
I say all this to set the scene for you, so you will really be able to appreciate how much these two rocked it out, despite everything working against their favor. They are two of the sweetest people ever, and their obvious adoration for each other shows in every single one of these frames… so much so that you’d never be able to tell how absolutely miserable the weather was. Without further ado…
How adorable are they? I mean, really.
This is by far my favorite of the day.
Oh goodness. So romantic.
These two met online originally, which I think is becoming so much more common these days. I would venture to say that a solid third of my couples met online. Oh, internet, I love you.
In light of that, Brittany had the idea of incorporating their laptops into some of the shots. And *I*, of course, had to incorporate some silliness. The result:
They’re also die hard Bama fans. How cute are these?
Brittany, you’re gorgeous. Seriously.
Football in lap. Football in… air?
Whenever I would freak out a little and ask if they felt okay or if they were getting too wet and cold, Brittany would just say, “You know what, the day of our first date was really dark and rainy like this. I think it works perfectly for us.” She’s sweet as tea, I tell you.
Thank you both so much for your amazing attitudes. It was an absolute joy and honor to capture your love for each other, and I wish you the best of luck for your upcoming wedding!
