When Brigette first emailed me about shooting an engagement session for her and her fiancé Ryan, she told me that they had been drawn to the way I use landscapes in my work, especially when it comes to Birmingham. I absolutely LOVE when couples want to incorporate meaningful locations and surroundings into their portraits, because I think settings can contribute so much to telling their story. That’s why you’ll sometimes see seemingly-insignificant detail and wider-angle shots incorporated into my posts- even though they make no sense on their own and out of context, they can enrich a wedding or portrait session SO MUCH, because sometimes you just want to remember every little thing about that day.
But I digress! One thing I love about Brigette and Ryan is how much they enjoy a good meal. Ryan is a chef, and they met when Brigette started working at Whole Foods. According to Ryan, she stopped him dead in his tracks when he passed her in the conference room during her orientation. According to Brigette, she noticed him when he was building the chocolate truffle display. Sounds like a recipe for a classic rom-com, if you ask me. ;) Since then, Ryan has spoiled Brigette by cooking for her almost every night, but when he’s not cooking, they love hanging out at Chez Fonfon, which is easily one of Birmingham’s best restaurants. So it only made sense for us to start their session there. And boy was I in heaven, because those of you who follow me probably know by now that I have a strong affinity for anything French, and the European cafe feel of Chez Fonfon is just perfection.
So, s’il vous plait, enjoy!
Love, love, love this one.
Are these two seriously just not SO cute together? I’m pretty much obsessed with Brigette’s red hair.
Thank you Brigette and Ryan for such a fun afternoon around the city! And congrats on your engagement! :)

Kelly - I LOVE the two of them laying in the grass. Also, don’t tell anyone I was awake at this hour on a Friday night before an early early early day. :)
