Erin + Steven // A Whimsical Palm Springs Parker Hotel Wedding

This wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty.

Let’s just say that when Samantha and I showed up to Gene Autry house at the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs to shoot Erin and Steven’s wedding… there was no shortage of oohing, aahing, and girly squealing. As I mentioned yesterday, we both are head over heels in love with mid-century design and color, so not only was simply being in Palm Springs a dream, but getting to shoot a wedding like this one, well… we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Erin stole my heart from the very first email she sent me last summer. We hit it off immediately, connecting over our mutual love for Chick-fil-a, sweet tea, CoverGirl lip stain, our dogs, and our Southern roots. She’s a Texas girl through and through, and when she told me that she had been complaining endlessly to Steven about photographers with “Vintage Dom Perignon pricing for 2-day-old Lone Star Light shots” and was so glad to have found me, I was sold. ;) To get to photograph an incredibly hip California wedding is one thing, but to hear “Chicken Fried” playing while you’re eating ribs and mac ‘n cheese at said wedding is pretty much perfection. (I think I may have startled Sam with just how many lyrics I knew to the country songs that were played, but what can I say? I’m an Alabama wedding photographer. :) )

Between the unbelievable amount of DIY, eco-friendly, oh-so-chic-ly executed details and decor, to the ridiculously cool and intimate setting of the Gene Autry house on the property of the Parker (once owned and lived in by the Singing Cowboy himself, and designed by my FAVE Jonathan Adler), to the kindness and hospitality of everyone involved in this wedding…. well, my camera could barely handle all the beauty. But I’m hoping these photos will do the weekend just a small amount of justice.

Can I just go ahead and move in? Pretty please?

Erin did an incredible job DIY-ing their invitation suite. She told me she was worried it would look too much like a Hobby Lobby craft project, but I never would’ve been able to tell she had designed and assembled them without professional help. I love the charcoal gray and lime color scheme, the incorporation of the Parker logo, and the scratch-off save the dates (penny included!). You may not be surprised to learn that Erin recently launched her own event planning and branding company, EMC Squared. She’s got the talent for it, no doubt!

I loved that Erin and Steven’s pups, Dexter and Junior, were hanging out at the house all weekend. Junior was a little terrified of my camera, but I like to think he warmed up to me by the time it was all said and done. ;)

When I was chatting with Erin about where we should do their first look, she mentioned one spot in particular where she had imagined she would be standing behind Steven, wrapped in sunlight and looking all angelic. But then she was like, “Oh, never mind, who am I kidding? It’s ME!” Well, if this isn’t angelic looking, I don’t know what is…. :)

Fun bridal party? YES.

This may go down as one of my favorite wedding day memories. One of Erin and Steven’s friends was walking around all day in a Speedo, which was pretty hilarious as it was. But then, right before the ceremony, he put on a jacket and tie, and dress socks and shoes, but no pants. Yes, friends, he attended the wedding in his Speedo. As my friend Kelly put it when I told her about it, “California knows how to party.” :)

I think Erin may secretly be an Olsen sister. STUN-NING.

I am completely obsessed with this wall in front of the hotel, and I’m determined that somehow I’m going to make it happen at my house someday.

I love it when even a tattooed, manly military man gets a little teary-eyed when his bride comes down the aisle. :)

I mean, COULD this be more gorgeous? Nuh-uh.

Erin’s father works for Blue Bell ice cream back in Texas, and they shipped some in especially for the wedding. It’s one of those things I completely take for granted, since we have every flavor imaginable here in Alabama (my new favorite? strawberry banana shortcake). But watching all of the Californians try it for the first time was pretty awesome. They were very impressed. :)

The next morning, Sam and I came back to the house to shoot their goodbye brunch, and I couldn’t resist including a few shots. This is what Palm Springs is all about.

Erin and Steven, I can’t thank you enough for inviting us into your lives to capture such a ridiculously fun weekend.

Also, I have to give a huge shout out to my sidekick, second shooter, and dear friend Sam Kanzler for all of her help (and for capturing some of the photos above), the staff at the Parker for all their help and hard work, Jeanette Collins for coordinating, Alison Franchi and her team at Le Petite Gardenia for the beyond stunning florals, Jane Kim for her makeup artistry, Rebekah Ryan for lovely hair, and Larry Graham for being one of the best DJs I’ve heard at a wedding. It was a great team!

Kelly - So many details! I love the no whining sign and the gold animals (I saw that on pinterest and have secretly wanted to have cupcakes every day topped with a different one), and of course I love all of the colors everywhere. This wedding deserves a Jelly Kelly card for sure :) Oh, and I’m obsessed that she changed to an actual professionally styled updo for the reception, it looks gorgeous and I need someone to come do that to me right now. Amazing as always, friend :)

Erin Yeschin - Words cant describe how happy I am to see all of this from your perspective. It all happens to fast and I was able to take in each moment that day because I knew you had it all covered but I never expected perfection like this! Thank you so very much for your incredible talent, amazingly sweet words AND the best damn coverage of the coolest wedding this side of the Colorada Riva! ;) And thank you Kelly for your sweet words as well! The goal was childlike whimsy and Im so happy it translated through thanks to Morgan & Sam’s awesome eyes! You’re the BEST Morgan Trinker! :)

Debbie - Wowza Morgan! Another great job capturing another amazing bride and groom’s big day! Love, love, love the Bermuda shorts on Steven and the Speedo was definitely a first! But I must admit I loved the beautiful California sky and the numerous ways they incorporated TX into their wedding! I’m glad you pointed out Erin is into event planning because if she wasn’t, she was really missing the boat! The attention to detail was incredible! Brilliant! Many years of love and laughter for Erin and Steven!

Gail - Two things about this wedding:

1) It may be my favorite of yours. Ever. (and that’s REALLY saying something!)

and

2) It makes me SICK I couldn’t be there with you for this. SICK. Ahhhhh….

Those Californians…this post just makes me want to be one even MORE! :)

Amanda - Wow, I wish I could have been at this party…oops, I mean wedding. I am going to have to take up photography so I can second shoot with you. lol Morgan, amazing work capturing the spirit of this couple!

Adventures in Palm Springs

When I was first contacted by Erin last summer, I could hardly believe my luck when she said she wanted to fly me out to Palm Springs for her wedding. I have literally been dreaming of going there for several years, because I know it’s a must-see for any lover of mid-century design, California cool style, and bold colors. So I booked a room at the ultra-hip Ace Hotel for the long weekend, asked my friend Sam (also a lover of all things mid-century) to join me, and we boarded a plane to visit what I now know is one of my absolute favorite places I’ve ever been.

If you threw the hospitality, charm, food, and front porch culture of the South in a blender with the eclectic, colorful style of Palm Springs, you’d end up with something like my dream place to live. Unfortunately, we don’t have many places in Alabama that look quite like this, so I think I’ll just have to settle for looking to California for stylistic inspiration and infuse it into my daily life however I can. ;)

Huge thank you to Erin and Steven for giving us the opportunity for such an amazing work-cation. Enjoy this tiny little glimpse into our trip to Palm Springs, and come back tomorrow to see the actual wedding (and it is a DO-NOT-MISS!).

Erin Y - OH my GOODNESS!!! Your incredible talent never ceases to amaze me! I am SO FLIPPIN HAPPY that you had such a good time and more over, that there’s a chance we can have a “Same Time, Next Year” affair and meet again in my version of “The Happiest Place on Earth…..for Adults”. Dont worry…Im totally the Alan Alda in this situation. You ARE the BEST!

Erika + Drew // A Classic Knoxville Wedding with Peonies and Burlap

Erika and Drew are the ultimate high school sweethearts, and I’m not going to lie, I love that about them. My husband Jamie and I always joke that if we had met even a year or two earlier, while we were still in high school, we probably never would’ve started dating (I was the nerd, he was the athlete, and as stereotypes go we didn’t stand a chance ;) ), but watching the slideshow of photos of these two during the reception, it was so cool seeing them experiencing their “growing up” years together. And you could tell throughout the entire wedding that this has been a long-anticipated event, and I think everyone was just so happy that it’s finally official.

This wedding day was just an all-around fun one to be at, too. Everyone was having such a good time just hanging out together all day, which is how wedding days SHOULD be. I also love a good rowdy group of groomsmen, and they set the bar pretty high for guys everywhere when they surprised Erika with a choreographed dance to “Call Me Maybe.” (Keep scrolling to see the video further down!) It was hands down one of my favorite wedding day memories ever. And to top it all off, Erika’s impeccable taste and classic style, mixed with the natural beauty of Hunter Valley Farm, made all the details so much fun to photograph!

And speaking of, let’s get to some of those photos, shall we? Huge thanks to my wonderful second shooter Sarah Musgrave for all her help, and for capturing some of the goodness you’ll see below!

Erika told me before the wedding that she’s known for her mad bedazzling skills. She wasn’t kidding! I saw bedazzled things all over her parents’ house while they were getting ready. :) So naturally I had to pay homage to her love for sparkles with the ultimate bling.

I loved Erika’s sweet and simple bridal style. To see more of it, check out the gorgeous bridal session we did back in the spring.

Told you this was a fun group of guys. ;)

Loved this darling little dresser they used as a guest sign-in space.

I’m starting to think it’s more common for guests to be looking at the groom for his reaction to the bride than at the bride herself. :) And understandably so, because keep scrolling for Drew’s reaction…

Drew made Erika giggle when she went to put his ring on by leaving her a little message on his finger. He had injured it recently and Erika was worried the ring wouldn’t fit at all, but luckily- with a little bit of wiggling- it did. Adorable!

These two are just beyond cute.

One of my favorite details of the day was the Marble Slab ice cream bar they had at the reception. GENIUS! It was a huge hit. :)

Remember the groomsmen dance I mentioned? Well, you’re in for a treat. Check out the video below!

“No photos, please!”

Congratulations Drew and Erika! Thank you so much for allowing us to be apart of your day!
