Ginger + Zack // An Ireland, Harry Potter, and Autumn-Inspired Nashville Wedding

ireland travel inspired wedding invitation

If you’ve spent any amount of time on my blog, Ginger and Zack’s faces are probably starting to look pretty familiar. They modeled for my St. Patrick’s Day styled shoot last year, and several months later, we did a real engagement session complete with Harry Potter costumes and a lot of rain. So needless to say, when they asked my BFF Kelly and I to tag team their wedding in Nashville this past October, we were ALL IN. (We also got to work with our dear friend Kelly Dellinger, who was their wedding planner!)

One thing I love about these two is how they have this very specific style as a couple. You immediately notice that they’re both redheads, but once you get to talking to them, you realize how perfect that is, because they share a strong love for Ireland (and I believe they both have Irish heritage?) as well as all things green. They both adore Harry Potter and Indiana Jones and woodland creatures (especially foxes), so the fall season and color palette somehow just kind of suits them perfectly. A ceremony at the Hogwarts-esque Scarritt Bennett Center followed by a reception in the perfectly industrial Houston Station made perfect sense for a Ginger-and-Zack wedding. Kelly and I spent the day drooling over all the details, from the gorgeous fall-inspired florals by Rosemary and Finch to the travel-inspired decor to the cake topper with Zack’s family crest on it…. which, perfectly enough, features a swan, and Ginger’s maiden name is Swan. *swoon*

I could honestly go on and on and on, but then I might never hit publish on the post, and these photos just need to be shared! :) You can also click here to see Kelly’s perspective and read some thoughts from Ginger about the day. Thank you so much to the most amazing redheaded couple we know for asking us to be apart of your day! We had the best time!

Lorraine - That might be my favorite shot ever of a groom seeing his bride for the first time (okay okay, besides my own!). What a great wedding! Those green bottles are to die for, too!

Kelsey Tae - I love the shot of him seeing her walking down the aisle! Wow. So sweet! I’m also a huge fan of the Marauder’s Map programs - how clever!!!

Debbie - I have to agree with Lorraine - the look on the groom’s face is priceless! It looks like he he is saying a great big WOW!!!!! OR OOOOHHHH!!!!! Maybe both :) The photo where they are standing in the doorway of the church stealing a moment of privacy is also great! What a fun, unique and beautiful wedding! Super photography ladies!!!!!!

katie - What a fantastic wedding! So many amazing pictures of their day, but I have to say the shot of the minister and the groom might be my favorite because I think I love the minister’s expression almost as much as Zack’s!

Meredith - Morgan, you are too cool for school. These are amazing! LOVE the getting ready shots and the bridal portraits of her inside! Such gorgeous light!

So Long, 2013

Confession time: This post almost didn’t happen.

Things have been super crazy busy this season, and my to-do list is still miles long, so when the time came to put together a 2013 recap post, I asked myself if it was realllly worth it. After all, last year’s post took me a solid 3 days to design and write, and for some inexplicable reason I feel compelled to outdo myself every year, so after doing the math I figured this one would take me at least a week. But then, as everyone’s else’s year-in-review posts began popping up in my newsfeed, I had a revelation: sometimes I just have to stop making things so darn complicated and difficult. The whole reason for these kinds of posts is to reflect on the past year… the ways we’ve grown, the mistakes we’ve made, our triumphs, our losses, our good times and bad. To see how far we’ve come, but also to learn from the past in order to grow in the future. It’s not about how fancy it looks. The sentiment is what matters. So in the interest of keeping this simple enough to be motivated to actually do it instead of just stressing out about it, this year’s format is a little different. It is simply a collection of some of my very favorite images from this year. No specific order, no rhyme or reason, no division. I did include at least one photo from every single wedding and portrait session I’ve done this year, some of which have never been blogged or have yet to be blogged, but other than that, there’s no real format.

And now that it’s done, I’m so, so glad I made the time for it. On one hand, I consider it a way of saying thank you to all of my wonderful clients who allow me to make a living doing what I love. But I also didn’t realize until just now how much I needed this for myself. Lest I forget how much this work matters. Lest I forget the smiles and the tears and the belly laughs and the warm embraces. Lest I forget that some days I learn that a grandmother I just photographed at a wedding passed away unexpectedly and mine was the last photograph of her ever taken… and other days I have the privilege of taking the very first photograph of a newborn baby with its adoring parents. Goodness, how easy it is to get swept up in editing and to-do lists and silly stresses. This is not a job I have to do. It’s a job I get to do.

2013, you’ve been a hard year. A year full of changes and challenges. But you’ve been a very good year. And lest I forget, here’s my reminder:

2014, you’ve got a tough act to follow! But I cannot wait to see what you’ve got in store…

Sarah - Amen Sister! A picture is worth a thousand words after all ;-) 2013 was awesome because it was the year I got to fan-girl out over you shooting my wedding. BIG KISS and maybe we can meet again some day <3
