Oh, you guys. I know I haven’t been posting nearly enough recently, but today I’ve got one giant post for you that makes my heart overflow with happiness. 2012 has been an incredible year, both in my personal life and in my business, and as I went back through all 26 weddings I shot this year to pick out favorites for this post, I got a little teary-eyed. I often reflect on how lucky I am to be doing what I do, because I actually get to share these amazing memories with all my brides and grooms on some of the happiest days of their lives. Every time I show up to “work,” there’s always something new to witness and experience and document, and looking back on the photos reminds me of every little detail of each wedding day, from the weather, to the way things smelled, to my favorite moments on the dance floor. It’s like I got to have 26 “best days” of my own! :)
I’ve got some major thanking to do to all those who made 2012 possible. First, an ENORMOUS thank you to all my second shooters and dear friends who make me look REALLY good and keep me sane on wedding days: Mary Margaret Smith (who shot a whopping 16 of these and drove goodness knows how many miles all over the Southeast with me!), Kelly Cummings (who also happens to be my BFF), Carly “Bish” Chaney, Carmen Michael, Carrie Joy Osbourne, Lauren Frisch, Sarah Musgrave, and Samantha Kanzler. And my sweet husband Jamie for pitching in now and then!
And of course a huge thank you to my amazing clients. For believing in me, for loving my photos, for becoming friends in the process. And for allowing me to travel from Alabama to California (twice!), Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina this year to document your weddings. Not only did I get to take some awesome photos, but I got to eat shrimp ‘n grits in Charleston (one of my favorite places!), visit Graceland for the first time in Memphis, go shopping at some crazy good mid-century stores in California, see where the buffalo roam in Kansas, wiggle my toes in the sand at Navarre Beach, and enjoy a slice of small town life in Pine Mountain. I’ve learned a lot about myself, I’ve grown as a photographer, and I’ve made some incredible friendships. Yes, it’s been a really good year.
For this post, I wanted to do something a little different. Something that makes me so proud is how very unique each one of my weddings is, so as you scroll through, you’ll see that I also included a little commentary on the details and moments and images that stood out to me and why. I tried to shorten it, but I simply couldn’t, because there’s just too much goodness to share. :) So I hope you enjoy this look back at 2012, and I hope that your year was just as full of wonderful memories.
