Lauren + David // A Clubhouse on Highland Wedding with Purple, Pops, and Pouring Rain

Every time I wake up on a Saturday that I’m shooting a wedding and I look outside and the rain is just a-pouring (which has happened quite a lot this season), I can’t help but start singing “It’s like raaaaaaaiiiiiin on your wedding day!” It’s a disease. Darn you, Alanis! (You’re singing it now too, aren’t you? Have fun with that today! ;) )

Lucky for me, my brides and grooms never see the rain as a terrible disaster, as the song might lead you to believe. Honest to goodness, when I showed up to the Clubhouse on Highland for Lauren and Dave’s wedding, you would never have guessed that it was drizzling relentlessly just outside the windows. (Literally you guys… it DID NOT STOP. For even a few minutes. The ENTIRE day.) The mood was upbeat and laid back, which is how I like to roll, personally. It’s how every wedding day should be!

I just loved this wedding. You may remember these two from their engagement session (during which they ate ice cream in the freezing cold- it was pretty sweet), and you may have figured out pretty quickly that Lauren loves purple, which manifested itself on the wedding day in gorgeous bouquets of lavender. You might also remember their love for the Atlanta Braves, which showed up in the custom baseball bats gifted to the groomsmen and their tomahawk war chant performed during the first kiss (awesome). And instead of ice cream, they brought in Steel City Pops for the reception, which was a HUGE hit. You guys know how much I love weddings infused with personal details, so it was all a treat to photograph.

Sally + Chris // A Polka-Dotted Pensacola Wedding

I first met Sally and Chris when they were both in the wedding party at Maren and Quint’s wedding in Auburn last year. They’re all best friends with each other, which I think is pretty awesome. Quint and Chris grew up together, then they went to Auburn University with Maren, and then Maren met Sally in graduate school in Nashville. (Who totally wants to go watch When Harry Met Sally now? Just me? Okay, cool.) Sally says she knew Maren was up to something when they would visit Quint, and sure enough, she was trying to set her up with Chris. Lucky for them, it worked, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. So when Sally first emailed me (not too long after catching the bouquet at Maren and Quint’s wedding!) about shooting her wedding in Pensacola, I did a little happy dance. I couldn’t wait to hang out with this group again!

We started the day at Sally’s parents gorgeous beach home, where the girls were getting ready. Sally told me ahead of time that the wedding would have a quasi polka dot theme, but I still wasn’t prepared for her adorable polka-dotted Kate Spade heels. (Seriously… BRIDE AFTER MY OWN HEART.) And it only got better as the day progressed! This was SUCH a fun wedding to be apart of, and after witnessing their emotional signing of the ketubah, glass stomping during the ceremony, and hora dancing, I also kind of wish my family was Jewish. ;) I’ll get to more details as we go, but let’s start with the photos!

But first, a huge shout out to my dear friend Mary Margaret Smith for driving down to Pensacola and spending the weekend with me and second shooting! It was so nice to make it another “workcation” with her. You’ll see some of her captures below. :)

POLKA DOTSSSS!

Maren and Jessica gave Sally such a great gift- a commissioned painting of her bouquet by the amazing Lulie Wallace! I’m kinda jealous, y’all.

According to Jewish wedding tradition, the bride and groom must sign a ketubah, a special marriage agreement. This happened prior to the ceremony in a room with a handful of witnesses. It was such a sweet moment because the rabbi (a longtime friend of the family) kept getting emotional. Oh, and Sally’s dress nearly caught on fire when Chris went to douse the candle in the cup of wine. But no biggie. ;)

The night of the wedding was the night that the super moon was out. It rose over the water during the cocktail hour and was absolutely stunning. So of course we had to get a few portraits with it. :) What a cool story to be able to tell about your wedding day!

Apparently the hora and low ceilings do not go well together. ;)

Congratulations Sally and Chris! Thank you for allowing us to be part of your big day… we loved every minute of it!
