Nathan and Camille // Engaged

Jamie and I just got back this morning from an amazing weekend in Connecticut and New York City, which you will be hearing MUCH more about soon enough. But right before we left, last Thursday evening, I got to photograph Nathan and Camille, the most adorable and stylish couple, here in Salt Lake City. I just wanted to share these with you, because I LOVE this session, and I’m so thankful that they had so much to contribute to it. I’ll be shooting their wedding in late July, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out, knowing how fun their style is and how much in love they are with each other. I honestly don’t know how they’ve managed to juggle everything, between being in school full time, working, and planning this wedding (AND Camille just finished doing a musical on top of all THAT!).

We started our session at the Coffee Garden in the 9th & 9th neighborhood of downtown. This place is so fantastic, and I love that it is somewhere they’ve spent a lot of time together as their relationship has grown. And it makes for a pretty stinkin’ cute backdrop too, don’t you think? :)

Seriously, though, how ADORABLE are they? Camille brought along some library books that sort of represent their different interests- for her, the theater, for him, aviation. And their outfits? LOVE them!

We discovered this spot right around the corner. It’s amazing what you can find when you just roam around and keep an open mind!

Camille also brought along her little Pomeranian, Tailey. Let’s just say that Tailey looooves her mama. :)

Hello, light. I love you.

We snapped a couple of shots next to the main 9th & 9th sign, but it was the shadow of the sign that really caught my eye. This is one of my faves.

Yellow and green are also their wedding colors. Perfect!

Camille seriously has like, THE total package. Big blue eyes, amazing creamy skin, super cute haircut… She’s such a natural! I love it.

Then we headed to a big open field above Capitol Hill. The sun was setting juuuuust right. Mmmmm.

It always amuses me how, right at the beginning of a session, there will always be at least one person to comment on how awkward he or she is in front of the camera. And inevitably, they will break out stuff like THIS:

Nathan and Camille will be going to the magical world of DISNEY for their honeymoon! So jealous! So the hats were definitely appropriate.

Last shot of the day, and another fave. When you run out of light, you just gotta make your own sometimes!

And now for the slideshow, set to “My Lucky Charm” by the Postmarks. I originally heard this one in Starbucks, and instantly put it into my bank of potential slideshow songs, where it has been waiting for just the right session to go with. I personally think this is the one, and I hope you agree. Enjoy!

megan - So stinkin cute! They are adorable and I can’t wait to see wedding pictures!

Jolina Evans - Love it, love it!! Sooooo cute! They are adorable alright, (and yes, Tailey LOVES Camille. Almost as much as Nathan…ha).
Great job Morgan Trinker!!!

KanzlerFoto - Once again, your work encourages me to think out side the box and stop thinking like a portrait photographer, and more like a photographer of beautiful and interesting things.
Keep it up Morgs!

alexandra - Beautiful post! They’re naturals in front of the camera.

Kimber - Gorgeous couple! Great pictures, Morgan!

Debbie - What an adorable couple! These are definitely some of your best work, but I say that all the time, but these are special. My fave is the last one when the sun went down. So beautiful!

Alaina - I love this chicks haircut! Great photo’s, and gorgeous couple!

Mint and Chocolate and Ice-Cold Milk

I was just thinking that it’s been a loooong time since I’ve put up a personal post. I mean, to some extent, ALL my posts are personal, but sometimes I think I get so caught up in blogging clients’ sessions as soon as I can that I forget that people read this blog for reasons other than to see the latest work I’ve done. So, dear readers, I give you another little glimpse into my everyday life when I’m not behind the camera, or behind the espresso bar for that matter.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the combination of mint and chocolate. Mint chocolate chip ice cream, Girl Scouts Thin Mints (or Keebler’s Grasshopper cookies for the thrifty ones among us), peppermint mochas, Andes mints… love it all. But my love for this flavor combo has reached new proportions in the form of two food items that have recently become central to my daily diet: cool mint chocolate Clif Bars and York peppermint patties.

For one, the Clif bars are so addictive because, unlike many other health or energy bars, they don’t taste like ground hippie. Especially the mint chocolate flavor. Dare I say it’s almost like eating a brownie? And then my mind, which has been trained by clever advertising and peer pressure to think that anything with the word “organic” on it must naturally be good for me and worth paying twice the price, is convinced that I’m making a good decision when I open up the wrapper with the cute little rock climber on it. It’s gotten to the point where I wake up craving them, and I love that they instantly fill me up.

So many days I start with a Clif bar, and I end with 3 or 4 delicious peppermint patties as I read in bed before turning in for the night. The trick is to keep them in the freezer. SO good. But if we’re out of milk, forget it. I have to have a big ole glass of 2% with 2-3 ice cubes floating around on top. And before you even start judging me for putting ice in my milk (I like it ICE COLD, okay?!), allow me to remind you that many of you order iced coffee or lattes at Starbucks all the time. Which, in case you didn’t know, are made of milk and ice. With a little espresso thrown in, too. So there. Leave my milk-drinking habits be. :)

What are your favorite munchies?

sharetweetpinemail

Tara Rhee - the phrase “ground hippie” just made my day. thank you.

carly - Ice in milk = heaven! Couldn’t agree more! Also, my favorite snacks are a slice or two of pepperjack cheese with a handful of Fire Roasted Tomato & Olive Oil Triscuits. Probably the best snack EVER. PS. Have you tried the chocolate mint flavored Skinny Cow cones? They are SO GÜD!

Michele Knutson - My current favorite is Gourmet Kettlecorn Popcorn made in Popcorn, Indiana. It’s got the sweet and salty thing going, but I love it especially because it reminds me of carnival time in my little town of Bann, Germany, when they had the same type of popcorn to munch on while you wandered the streets of Bann and rode the bumper cars (once Mom said we were old enough to do so).

Amanda Dipo - I’m in heaven with White Cheddar Popcorn and a Diet Pepsi…. ahh… junk food… :o)

Kimber - Reading the other comments made me starved, too! I love Triscuits with Rosemary and Olive Oil with Swiss Cheese on top with a Coke Zero to wash it down for the salty side, OR Skinny Cow Vanilla Ice Cream Cones with Caramel and a Coke Zero!

YUMMY!

KanzlerFoto - freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with ice cold whole milk

Jen Smith - “ground hippie” much appreciated.

admin - your comments are all making me SO HUNGRY! :) it all sounds amazing. hurray for snacks!

Lindsay’s Bridal Shower // Atlanta, GA

Last weekend, my mom-in-law Debbie and I flew into Atlanta to surprise my cousin(-in-law?) Lindsay for her bridal shower on Saturday. In the five years Jamie and I have been together, I had never gotten to meet his cousins on that side of the family, so I was so excited to get to spend some time with them FINALLY! :) A few months ago, shortly after Lindsay got engaged, she called me up and said that it had required almost no discussion between her and her fiance Michael for them to decide they wanted me to shoot their wedding this September. I was honestly quite shocked, since we had never met in person before, and since they both work in television and graphic art stuff in New York City (so clearly they have good taste!). I am sincerely honored to have the opportunity to be involved in their wedding in such an important way, and I feel even MORE excited about it all after spending face-to-face time with the Trinker/Felty family in Georgia, their home state. I loved Melissa and Lindsay both from the moment I met them, and I honestly mean that, because we all know that just because someone is family doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to like each other much or have anything in common. But we do! And I just think that’s fantastic.

Melissa and her mom (my Aunt Joan(-in-law?) planned a flawlessly Southern bridal shower for Lindsay’s family and friends who are in Georgia. Oh my goodness. I was absolutely blown away by how much thought Melissa put into every little detail. She booked a room in the Georgian Terrace Hotel, which is a stunning historic building in downtown Atlanta. The colors were mainly yellow and gray, because that’s what the wedding colors will be. Let me just list for you all the things that went into this to make it so charming: Mason jars. Sweet tea. Moon Pies. Fresh cotton-scented potpourri…. in silver mint julep cups. Magnolias. Lemon meringue cupcakes. A buffet of Southern brunch food like you wouldn’t believe. Yeah. It was the cutest thing ever. Then I began to wonder if maybe we WERE blood relatives after all! Guess it was just meant to be. :)

On to the photos!

Lindsay with Grandma. I love this.

This handkerchief covers Lindsay’s something old, borrowed, AND blue! Melissa passed it on to her to carry on her wedding day, just as Melissa did on hers. I just love special touches.

Lindsay most definitely went to UGA and is a football fan through and through! Love it.

I love this picture of Debbie.

Sisters!

Lately I’ve kind of had this obsession with individual portraits. Of course, with event photography, a lot of it is about capturing candid moments, which I also love. But I just think there’s something cool about having portraits of each guest, so that’s exactly what I did! Here are just a few of the lovely ladies in attendance:

And me with my new cousins!

Later we went over to Melissa’s house to hang out for a bit. I couldn’t resist taking some photos of her adorable daughter Ava. Just look at those curls!

Aunt Lindsay bought her a hat like Jessie’s from Toy Story. She loved it.

And of course, I couldn’t resist using Ray Charles’s “Georgia on my Mind” for the slideshow. Enjoy!

alexandra - I love these photos :) So much happiness :)

Debbie - Oh Morgan, how you manage to capture the feeling of every event you shoot amazes me. I felt like I was back at that beautiful, old southern hotel again. Can’t tell you how much it meant to me to spend the weekend with you without the boys! We need to do it every year! Love you lots!

Heather - Great pictures Morgan! They WILL NOT regret hiring you as their photographer…Love to you and Jamie

Fran Cirelli - These magnificent pictures will be treasured by Lindsay for years to come. Family is not about the blood but about the love and caring we have for one another. We (Michael’s family) are so thrilled to have Lindsay ‘officially’ become part of our family but we loved her from the start and are just so happy for both of them. It will be fun to see the contrast from the Georgia vs NJ party style and of course for all of us to meet as one family celebrating the marriage of Michael and Lindsay. Love to all… Aunt Fran (Michael’s favorite :))
