Hope and Chris // Expecting

Hope and Chris have a very special place in my heart AND in my business. Once upon a time, for some CUH-RAZY reason that I still can’t comprehend, Hope asked me to photograph their wedding. Having never seen a photograph I had ever taken (and if she had, she would have seen a lot of nonsense from my good ole point-and-shoot days). My only previous experience with shooting weddings was me snapping away at one of my best friends’ weddings with my lil Powershot. Nevertheless, probably out of total delusion and still on a high coming off of my own wedding that summer, I said yes… and then proceeded to panic. Big time. Literally all I had were a borrowed camera and some blogs and forums to help me cram. But somehow, some way, I not only survived it, but fell in love and have never looked back. So Hope’s faith in me truly has had an enormous impact on the growth of my business. Without her encouragement, I might honestly not be doing this right now. But here I am. :)

And NOW, two and a half years later, Hope and Chris have moved on to the next major milestone in their life together. They’re expecting their first child, baby Quinn, in May. I know that for Hope, it’s been a long, hard road to get here. She has battled infertility and has fought SO hard for this baby. If you’re interested in reading about her journey, you should check out her blog. It’s an emotional read, but with a very happy ending: Miss Quinn. :) So I was honored when Hope asked me to capture yet another significant moment in their lives. I know she’s so ready for the baby to just BE here, but I hope she and Chris will treasure these photographs and remember the excitement and anticipation they were feeling. And I hope that one day Quinn will be able to see in their faces how much they already adore her to pieces.

Now this? THIS is a glowing mom-to-be.

After playing at the park, we headed to Menchie’s. When we were brainstorming locations, I suggested that we go somewhere with treats that Hope has been craving while pregnant. Ice cream was up there on the list, so I told them about the heaven that is fro-yo, and I’m fairly certain they’re now addicted too. :) Plus, the pink and green color scheme. Could it be any more perfect?!

Thank you guys for such a fun morning! I can’t wait to head back to Knoxville to photograph Quinn when she makes her grand entrance. :)

Amber | DJ for UAB BlazeRadio

Amber is the all-around adorable kind of girl you can’t help but like. Gorgeous, smart, a little bit of that Southern charm, and, of course, fantastic taste in music. She’s definitely got that Jenny Lewis, indie folk queen vibe going for her, which Lord knows I can’t get enough of. When she “liked” my Facebook page a couple of months ago, I checked out her profile and couldn’t help but think how cool she seemed. So I was beyond excited to do some head shots for her last week. She’s a DJ for UAB’s BlazeRadio, and she hosts the Indie Hour. [Go check out her Facebook page!] When I met up with her and her boyfriend Chris (and yes, they are adorable together, in case you were wondering), I got to check out the studio, and then we headed to Five Points to pop in one of Amber’s favorite record stores. It made me realize how long it’s been since I was really into discovering and listening to and talking about new music. I think that needs to change. So if you have any suggestions, send ’em my way. :)

But for now, meet Amber:

Seriously, how is that I get to photograph the most beautiful people? I mean, really.

Since Chris came to hang out, I couldn’t resist getting a few of them together.

Thank you guys for such a fun afternoon! I hope you enjoy these!

A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock ‘n Roll // Part Two

On Tuesday I gave you Part One of the bridal fashion extravaganza I shot for Sarah Beth. Today, we bring you Part Two. These two looks show the softer side of bridal makeup and fashion, and are more inspired by Anthropologie-esque, feminine 60’s and 70’s Grand Ole Opry singers and hippie, earthy Woodstock rockers.I think Sarah Beth’s vision came together beautifully, and I hope you enjoy these as much as we did creating them!

I love the romantic, peachy tones of this makeup look. Sarah Beth’s coworker Candace totally rocked it!

Sarah Beth found this vintage lacy yellow dress for super cheap, then added the ribbon belt and the golden bow brooch. UGH, love it!

p.s. We shot this whole set in about 15 minutes in the mall parking lot right outside the salon because we were rapidly losing light and it was almost dark out. I think we made it work, though!

Gorgeous!

This next set might just be my favorite. We were so lucky to be able to use Sarah Beth’s parents’ nursery, the Hewitt Garden and Design Center in Franklin, because the rain was POURING at this point and shooting outdoors would not have been an option. But regardless of the rain, the greenhouses were a photographer’s dream, not only because of all the stunning greenery, but also because the walls and roof act as a gigantic softbox, spreading soft, even white light all over our unbelievably adorable model, Elissa. (Seriously, though, you will want to take a spoon to her face and eat it, that’s how cute she is. She’s got the doe-eyed, sweet beauty of an Audrey Hepburn or a Twiggy.)

This was also my favorite hairstyle. I love the perfect “undoneness” of it… and the to die for shade of red with blonde streaks…. and those braids… ACK!

Did I mention she has that whole Kate Bosworth, one blue eye, one brown-ish blue eye thing going on? How cool is that!

I couldn’t resist playing a little. Maybe this processing looks hideous and ridiculous, but I kinda like it. :)

Thank you so much to ALL our models- Sammi, Meredith, Candace, and Elissa- and to Caity for whipping up some fabulous bouquets and assisting, and to Sarah Beth for dreaming up and bringing to life such a fantastic portfolio collection! It was a dream shoot, and I’m looking forward to many more collaborations in the future.

Amanda Dipo - I love these! I have favorites from both models. You are having too much fun in Alabama! I miss your talent here! :o) Still it is wonderful to see all of your work still. You are awesome!

Kristin Nicole - Love these…looks like so much fun!

Leona Smith - LOVE!!

Kathleen Frank - This set is gorgeous. The models are rockin’ and the processing is so soft and delicate, a perfect fit! I LOVE, love, love the close up of Elissa with the funky processing! So retro with fantastic lighting and shadows!

KanzlerFoto - I don’t know where you found those old vintage photographs…But I’m pretty sure they did not wear gauged earrings back then. *wink wink*

KanzlerFoto - love em!

Jessica - Very cool. Candace looks beautiful!!
