Ashley + JD // An Outdoorsy and Fun Birmingham Engagement

Ashley and JD are one of those couples who just make you feel at ease from the moment you meet them. When Ashley first came to my office, once I got past the fact that she is a DEAD RINGER for my cousin Elisa (seriously you guys- her looks, her voice, her personality- it was freaky), I just immediately fell in love with her warm, fun, and laidback personality. I figured her and JD’s engagement session would be a lot of fun, but oh my goodness…. I felt like we just never stopped laughing!

We met up at Oak Mountain State Park (because the key word was TREES!), and they brought along their dogs, and right off the bat we just fell right in stride. It was also pretty cool because JD is an avid bike rider and often goes here to bike the trails, so he was able to point out a couple of AMAZING spots for photos that I probably never would’ve found otherwise! If this session is any indication of how their wedding is going to go down next spring, well then… I just can’t wait!

For now, enjoy these moments of pure fun and love. Thanks for such a great session, you guys!

I can think of few more beautiful sights than the South in the fall. Oh goodness.

It’s a tough call, but I’m going to have to go ahead and say this is my favorite of the day:

Kelly | A Taylor Swift-Loving Memphis Bride

I just returned from Memphis yesterday, where I shot the gorgeous wedding of Kelly and John (who you might remember from their engagement session). And just like that session, and the one I’m getting ready to share with you, the wedding could’ve been straight out of a Taylor Swift music video. :) I’m so happy for these two, and I hope they’re having a BLAST in Disney World right now. Until their wedding photos are ready, I’ll offer up Kelly’s bridals for a little fairy/woodland/princess/TSwift-inspired eye candy.

When I showed up at the Memphis Botanic Garden and entered the bride room, where Kelly had just put on her dress, I literally gasped. She looked absolutely stunning in her Vera Wang, and she told me that she was almost more excited for ME to see it than for John to. Ha. I think she knows my photographer-geek-out tendencies all too well. :) We also had her mom, Carol, and her bridesmaid-of-honor Madison on hand to assist, and all in all, I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

Enjoy! More to come of this lovely lady and her husband.

The McGees // A Rustic Oak Mountain Farm Family Session

As a photographer, there are few bigger compliments you can receive than when another photographer chooses you to capture her family. When Megan, who is a Chattanooga senior portrait photographer, contacted me awhile back to ask for some business advice, one thing led to another, and next thing I knew, she was planning a trip down to Birmingham for me to shoot her family. I know that she has lots of talented friends, so for her to trust ME to capture her family was a huge honor.

Naturally, I was so nervous I thought I would throw up.

But as soon as Megan, her husband Sean, their son Caiden, dog Bailey, and Megan’s mom stepped out of the car when we met up at Oak Mountain State Park on Sunday afternoon, my nervousness began to melt away. They are such a warm, loving, and fun family that Jamie (who came with me to help out- thanks love!) and I felt like we had known them forever. Caiden is so cute that even during the rare moments when he got restless and a little over the whole photography thing, he still had a gigantic smile on his face. His belly laugh is infectious, and had the whole group practically rolling with laughter.

Megan told me she was embarrassed to admit that as a professional photographer, she had no professional photos of her OWN family to hang on her walls and that was one of the motivations for scheduling this session. I think all too often we photographers focus so much on documenting other people’s lives that we forget to do the same, or hire someone else to do the same, for ourselves. So I think it’s awesome that the McGee family will now have some slices of their life and love to proudly display in their home.

So Megan, thank you for trusting me with this. I hope I did you proud! :)

kathleen frank - Love this! All that light and such an adorable family. Just fantastic!

Brenda slanga - You have touched my heart with these amazing moments you captured of my family..I am in Love your work.. Such talent Morgan..
Thank you!!

Rachel - I laughed out loud when I read the line about being so nervous that you thought you would throw up! Thanks for being so real! - And these photos ARE wonderful! The love, the light, the EVERYTHING. I know they are going to treasure them! There are so many images that could be blown up the size of a wall and hung there forever to admire, but I totally love that one where they are standing there and surrounded by little dots of white. What is that - bugs or dust? Whatever it is, it makes it so magical in that light. LOVE.
