As someone who graduated from the University of Tennessee (don’t hold it against me, Alabama friends ;)), it was so much fun listening to the story of how Emily and Brendan met. They were both students at UT, and ended up in the University Center at the same time, trying to find lab coats at the last second for the biology class they were both supposed to be in. Emily’s brother-in-law had driven her there because he happened to be on campus, and she didn’t have time to trek up the Hill (a hill so terrible to climb it’s been given capitalization), so when she got back in the car with Brendan, the guy she had just met, needless to say it was a bit of a surprise. But that day, these two became lab partners, and the rest is history. :)
Sure, I loved the fact that my beloved “Rocky Top” was sung during the reception, and that Emily reminds me SO much of Ellen Page (seriously, it was hard not to accidentally call her Ellen during the day), and that their wedding party was an absolute blast to spend time with, and how gorgeous the navy and gold color palette was… but in the end, as with all the weddings, the best part was getting to capture the complete adoration Emily and Brendan have for each other. You’ll see it in the photos. And if you don’t, then I’ve just failed miserably as a photographer.
Thank you so much to Haley of Photos by Heart for doing a fabulous job second shooting for me at this one. (I also shot Haley’s own wedding a few weeks later, which I can’t wait to share soon! Goodness, I love having so many amazing friends in this industry.) Thanks also to Mandy and her team at Hothouse Design Studio for the gorgeous florals– they’re one of my favorite florists in town for a reason! It was also great to work with Danny Brewer of Feel the Beat entertainment again. He has such a great heart and is so much fun at receptions! And thank you also to Jackie Robinson of Rawwbeauty. She has a way of making faces photo-ready like no one’s business. ;)
But let’s get on to the photos, shall we?
Emily has no shortage of personality! I love the range of her facial expressions we captured throughout the day. :)
Bride and mama moments… they just kill me.
It’s truly amazing how serendipitous location scouting can be. Right next door to the church was the Federal Building and Court House, which had the most amazing white stone walls with gold accents. A PERFECT backdrop for a modern navy and gold wedding, right?!
Uhhh…. I mean…. Amazing.
Emily and Brendan are huge Beatles fans, so an Abbey Road-inspired shot was kind of a must.
This was so sweet. Emily held it together for pretty much all of the ceremony, and then as soon as she and Brendan came through the double doors and stopped to hug each other, she lost it. I wish I had been able to do this at my own wedding, rather than sobbing in all my photos. ;)
I’m pretty sure I’ll never tire of the view of Birmingham from The Club. Goodness.
Spontaneous singing of Rocky Top as Emily and Brendan went from table to table? Yes please!
Congratulations Emily and Brendan!
